Business Studies Updated June 11, 2009 The Principal's Newsletter: January 2009. In December, the Grade 10 Business classes partook in the annual Business venture week. Through the sale of pizza, samosas, brownies, ice cream, candy grams, video game time, hair styling services and wonder waffles the students learned a great deal about running a business. A total of thirteen companies were created this semester and all the companies broke even bringing in just over $1,000 in profits which was donated to the Stephen Lewis fund for charity week. Special congratulations goes out to the group members of Wonder Waffles; Neha, Thivya, Alice, Abeer and Sam. Their wonderful marketing techniques and innovative product managed to set the all time record for highest profiting company of SLSS business venture week so far with a profit of $235.35. Accounting International Business Guest Speaker: CHOP
On November 19, “Chop” from the hit A&E
TV series King of Cars, visited Stephen Lewis to talk about the importance
of credit in the lives of young people. Over 400 students enjoyed listening
to this highly entertaining celebrity. Our thanks to Meadow Mills Pontiac
Buick and Credit Pro Financial for providing Lewis’ students with
this unique opportunity to meet the “King of Cars.”
The Principal's Newsletter: June 2008 The Business Venture Week provided students with a glimpse into the day-to-day running of a small business and all that it entails. Students learned valuable skills such as marketing, accounting and teamwork. Students were involved in variety of ventures including samosas, smoothies and gourmet cookie sales. The students donated the proceeds of all their hard work to Free the Children. Congratulations and thank you to the Grade 10 Business students and Mr. Sousa and Mrs. Hogarth for their hard work during Venture Week. Some of our accounting students had a chance to match wits with students across the province by writing the Ontario Business Educators' Association Accounting Contest this past semester. Although we're still waiting on the final results we want to congratulate those students for putting in their time and effort at a very busy time of the year. For any parents wishing to find some math work to keep those young minds mathematically active over the summer, feel free to browse the Math and Business Department page of our website for some material to help your son/daughter prepare for their next year in mathematics.
